Naming Policy
A name -- account or community -- is identity. This page explains which names cannot be taken, what we do when someone impersonates another, and how a name is claimed or released.
1. Impersonation
It is forbidden to present yourself as another person, club, media outlet, journalist or official account. This includes copying a third party's name, photo and bio so as to be confused with them, even without explicitly saying "I am X".
Parody, tribute and fan accounts are allowed as long as the visible name makes clear that it is not the official account (for example "Parody", "Fan", "Unofficial"). If an average reader could be confused, that is not enough.
Impersonation is always policy-level: it goes straight to the platform team's queue, never to the affected community's own moderation.
2. Reserved names
Certain names cannot be used as a community because they collide with site routes, staff roles or the brand. The list is validated on the server when a community is created; below is the full, up-to-date list.
3. Misleading names
Names that suggest a status you do not have are not allowed: "official", "verified", "staff", "admin", "support", "moderation", nor names that imitate re*ACTION RADAR or its sections.
Names whose content is already forbidden by the Code of Conduct are also not allowed: +18 material, hate, threats or harassment in the name or description itself.
4. Community squatting
Creating communities to hoard names -- without posting, without moderating and without a real community -- is not allowed. The signals we look at are objective: number of members, published content and date of last activity.
A community is considered dormant when 180 days pass without activity and it has no content of its own published. In that case the name can be released after notifying the owner and giving them 14 days to respond. If they post and moderate within that window, they keep the name.
Release is never automatic: it is decided by a member of the team and is logged in the moderation audit log with actor, target and reason.
5. How a claim is resolved
1) The claim is received. 2) The team verifies the claimant's identity and the real confusion the name causes. 3) The current holder is contacted. 4) It is resolved: the name is kept, a change is requested, or it is transferred/released. 5) The decision is communicated to both parties and logged.
Whoever loses a name due to impersonation also receives a sanction according to the sanctions ladder, and can appeal it from your sanctions.
6. Claiming a name
Claims go straight to the platform team. Claim in good faith: repeated false claims are also sanctioned.
